A wistful, nostalgic piece for French horn and piano

This short piece for horn and piano is a reworking of the song Lady Montrevor from …Too bitter sweet. The title, which is taken from a line in the poem, suggests a mixture of wistfulness, regret, nostalgia and optimism.

The piece is tonal without a feeling of a key centre. It commences in A modal minor and concludes in A flat minor, perhaps reflecting the uncertainty inherent in the poem.
