Five Short Pieces for alto saxophone and piano (Op.9f)

A set of pieces for alto sax and piano, freely based on poems by Christina Rees

This set of pieces was originally composed for flute in 1985, and arranged for saxophone in 2017. They are elaborate transcriptions of To One, five songs to poems by Christina Rees, which convey the countless moods associated with a relationship.

  1. Empty night (where are you?)
  2. To entice you
  3. Bared to the soul
  4. I learn my name
  5. Christening

Five Short Pieces for alto sax and piano is in the repertoire list for the 2019 alto/baritone sax (grade 8, List C) London College of Music examinations.

This recording of Five Short Pieces was produced using computer software called Sibelius: it is not a live recording.
